Tether integrates Lightspark’s Bitcoin Lightning infrastructure into wallet development kit

Tether and Lightspark announced Thursday the integration of Spark's Bitcoin Lightning infrastructure into Tether's wallet development kit.

WDK is an open-source, modular software development kit that lets developers integrate non-custodial wallets and payments for USDT, XAUT, BTC, and other tokens across apps, websites, and devices.

The integration is designed to simplify the incorporation of fast, low-cost bitcoin payments through a single stateless API, according to a statement shared with The Block, ensuring wallets can natively support the Bitcoin base layer, Spark, and Lightning to enable instant bitcoin and stablecoin transactions without custodial or cloud dependencies.

"This advancement will empower innovators to develop programmable and resilient monetary systems that serve individuals, machines, and diverse communities alike," Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said in the release. "Our mission is to make Bitcoin Lightning accessible to everyone, facilitating instant global transactions while protecting custody and privacy. This is not just progress; it's a transformative leap towards a more inclusive financial future."

The integration also paves the way for WDK to support autonomous agents in the QVAC ecosystem — Tether's recently announced decentralized AI agent platform — enabling machines to independently transact in USDT and BTC and interact securely at scale, the firms said.
