Over 30 zero-knowledge cryptography firms join consortium overseeing the open source ZkBoost protocol

Over 30 zero-knowledge cryptography-related companies have signed on to use a universal open-source API called ZkBoost, which will foster competition without causing fragmentation in the industry.

StarkWare, ZKsync, Linea, Scroll, =nil; Foundation, Gevulot, Aztec, Succinct, Taiko, among dozens of others have all joined to form the ZkBoost Consortium, which will serve as a governing council for the software.

ZkBoost is related to the recent “proof supply chain” phenomenon kicked off by Gevulot earlier this year. In essence, the tool is a way to give various Ethereum Layer 2s a marketplace for proving their rolled-up transactions are legitimate.

ZK Layer 2s enable faster processing time by bringing blockchain transactions off the main Ethereum chain, but these transactions still resolve down to the mainnet in batches.

The foundation represents a coming together of standards and practices, despite differing technical solutions for building blockchain scaling layers.

"With ZkBoost, we are laying the groundwork for a future where zero-knowledge proofs are accessible and interoperable for every developer and enterprise,” Gevulot CEO Teemu Päivinen said in a statement. “This collaboration underscores our belief that the power of zk technologies should be shared, not siloed."
