Curve Finance set to integrate ZetaChain for native bitcoin cross-chain swaps

Decentralized exchange Curve Finance is integrating with the interoperability platform ZetaChain to provide native bitcoin support for cross-chain swaps.

ZetaChain describes itself as a "universal blockchain," utilizing smart contracts to manage crypto assets on multiple chains from the same platform. The integration enables omnichain asset pools on Curve that could include BTC on Bitcoin, ETH on Ethereum and USDC on Polygon, for example, all in a unified single liquidity pool.

"These pools can exist on Ethereum, or ZetaChain itself," ZetaChain posted on X. "Either way, users can deposit native tokens, interacting from any wallet on any chain — even bitcoin from their Bitcoin wallet address."

Bitcoin cross-chain swaps Once deployed, the integration means that Curve users can engage in bitcoin cross-chain swaps, sending native bitcoin from a Bitcoin wallet address and exchanging it for ether on Ethereum or other supported tokens on supported networks. Conversely, users could trade native ether or other assets to receive bitcoin into their Bitcoin wallets.

"Additionally, we expect the deployment to compete heavily on cost (potentially, 2-10X+ less gas compared to messaging-based bridge solutions) given its single contract architecture," ZetaChain said.

ZetaChain added that Curve recognized a need for "better standardized interoperability," and the collaboration would help the DEX to securely and efficiently expand into broader networks — including the largely untapped Bitcoin network in DeFi. Curve Finance did not respond to a request for comment from The Block.

Longer-term, the interoperability platform said the integration could bring more trading volume to the exchange and provide diverse collateral options for Curve's crvUSD stablecoin.

ZetaChain is already EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) compatible — meaning the integration can be deployed without the need for further modifications — with the next step involving Curve launching on ZetaChain's mainnet.
