Pimlico integrates Safe smart wallets utilizing 'ERC-4337 module'

Blockchain developer Pimlico has integrated wallet provider Safe's smart accounts via the latter's “ERC-4337” module.

The integration aims to bolster Pimlico’s account abstraction infrastructure and allow its clients to create Ethereum-based products with enhanced user experience and security. Safe is an institutional wallet provider which secures $50 billion in assets.

The ERC-4337 standard, deployed on Ethereum’s mainnet in March 2023, facilitates account abstraction, which permits conventional crypto wallets to operate as smart contracts, enabling advanced features like multi-factor authentication, social recovery and token transaction flexibility.

Safe incorporated ERC-4337 support in July into its account abstraction infrastructure within the Safe Core software stack.

Pimlico will be the first to integrate Safe accounts using the ERC-4337 module and serves as a “bundler” in Safe’s ecosystem. Bundlers are intermediaries that relay transactions for smart accounts, organizing them in an off-chain pool before submitting them to the blockchain.

Kristof Gazso, Pimlico’s founder, highlighted the integration’s benefits, allowing users to access a reliable smart account framework paired with account abstraction infrastructure.

“By integrating Safe, the long-time industry-wide leader in the space, users will now be able to leverage the most battle-tested smart account framework with the best-in-class account abstraction infrastructure to provide smooth and powerful experiences for their end users,” Gazso said.

Safe was an early backer of Pimlico, participating in a September $1.6 million pre-seed round, followed by a $4.2 million seed funding round led by a16z crypto earlier this month.
