The New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), one of the most prominent financial regulators in the US, has received a total of 36 BitLicense applications since its creation in mid-2015, a Fortune report has revealed. Five of the 36 applications had been denied and, according to Fortune, 10 had been approved, as of November. In a press release, however, NYDFS stated that it had “approved fourteen charters or licenses for companies in the virtual currency marketplace.” According to these figures, NYDFS has made decisions on 15-19 of the 36 BitLicense applications it has received.
